Obituary of Patricia E. Straney

Patricia E. (Schoff) Straney, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with her family at her side.
Born April 17, 1928, Patricia was the daughter of the late Adolph and Margaret (Merckel) Schoff. She grew up in Rome and received a bachelor's degree in education from the State University of NY Fredonia. On December 27, 1950, she married James A. Straney in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Rome. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she lived most of her life in Rome until moving with her husband to St. Johnsville, NY to be closer to family.
Patricia was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church, and an active member of several civic organizations. An accomplished pianist, Patricia loved poetry, art, gardening and nature. She most enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Patricia is survived by James, her beloved husband of more than 66 years; their children, Paul (Mona) Straney, Mary Straney, Lauri Straney, Geoffrey Straney, Patricia Keegan, Daniel (Bethany) Straney, Cathleen Woodul, Charles (Amanda) Straney, Anne Marie Straney, and Joan (David) Turri; and 24 grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Nancy (Edward) Kerin. In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her son, James Patrick; sister, Mary Ann (William) Hyde; and brother, James (Cora) Schoff.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Patricia's Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 24, 2017, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at the entrance of the Church an hour before Mass.
The family extends a very special thanks to the staff of St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for the loving care given to Patricia.
