Obituary of Marjorie R Tuffey

Rome, NY �" Marjorie Ruth Fisher-Tuffey, 82, died peacefully at Rome Memorial Hospital on Sunday night, November 8, 2009, following a short illness. She most recently lived at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and before that at Georgian Arms Apartments. She was born October 21, 1927 in Rome, a daughter of Daniel E. and Katherine N. (MacDonald) Holmes. Marjorie attended Rome schools and received her GED in 1979. She married Edward J. Fisher on March 21, 1959. Edward died on Nov. 11, 1980. Marjorie married Charles P. Tuffey on April 12, 1997. Charles died on May 13, 1997. Marjorie worked as a crossing guard for the Rome Police Department, a nurse's aide at Stonehedge Nursing Home, and a Foster Grandmother for the Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency. She was a member of St. Mary's/St. Peter's Church, the Polish Home, and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Rome. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, crocheting, Bingo, reading and watching movies. Marjorie is survived by five children: Kenneth Webster of Iraq and Thailand; Roger Webster of Syracuse, NY; Patricia (Webster) Murling and her husband, David, of West Leyden, NY; Lorie (Fisher) McClory and her husband, Daniel, of Grantham, NH; and Kevin Fisher of Rome, NY. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two nephews, and many cousins and friends. Marjorie was predeceased by her son Craig, who died in 1959. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at St. Mary's Church,. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. At Marjorie's request, there will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
