Obituary of Maurice D. Gurley

Please share a memory of Maurice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maurice (Moe) Dawley Gurley passed away September 30, 2011 after a long illness. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on November 11, 1943. He is survived by his children, Jennifer, Allison (Paul) Gibson, David, and John; his sisters, Barbara Loso and Lucille (Thomas) Kovacik; and a granddaughter he adored, Alexandra Kathryn Gurley. He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice Dawley, Sr. and Anna Schweitzer Gurley, his brother-in-law, Robert R. Loso, and his cousin Richard E. Quentin. He was married to Kathryn Anne Cassidy of Whitesboro for 43 years. Moe grew up on East Garden Street in Rome and attended Rome Catholic schools. He studied business at MVCC before becoming a successful sales representative, first for Proctor Paint and Varnish Company of Yonkers, N.Y. and later for Insl-x Superior Coating Systems of Montvale, New Jersey. He was responsible all of Upstate New York, plus Vermont and eastern Canada. Devoted to these regions and to his work for over 40 years, Moe's customers often proclaimed that he was the most honest businessman they knew and that they could recognize him by his laugh. In his later years, the wonderful nurses at the Lutheran Home in Clinton came to love Moe's laugh as much as they came to love him. He and his family cannot thank them enough. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at St. Peter's Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the "Lutheran Care Foundation," 108 Utica Road, Clinton, N.Y., 13323.
