Obituary of Lois T. Gordon
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois T. Gordon, 93, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully following a brief illness, on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Bethany Gardens, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Utica, New York on November 20, 1924 to Edward E. and Clara Saupp Thomas, she attended Utica schools and was later employed by Savage Arms, Woolworths, and General Electric. In 1957, Lois relocated to Rome, where she and her family owned and operated V & E Restaurant for the next 22 years. United in marriage to Albert E. Gordon in 1985, she had since resided in North Syracuse, a place for which she developed great affection.
Lois delighted in decorating a home filled with memories and maintaining a yard that was picture perfect. Even into her 90's, she defied her age with her active lifestyle and youthful beauty. She enjoyed writing through extensive journaling, had a lifelong fondness for movies, and a real tender spot for animals. Ultimately, Lois' true passion was music, and she truly loved expressing her own vocal talent through her participation with various church choirs, the Rome Choral Society, and Liverpool Community Chorus.
She leaves three daughters, Linda Dorety LoRusso of Rome, Susan Dorety (Keith) Dwyer of Rock Hill, SC, Tracey J. Schilling of Sherrill, a son, Paul S. (Betty) Schilling of Rome, five grandsons, Howard J. Dean of Catasaqua, PA, Griffen R. Angel of Osan, Korea, Joshua M. Schilling of Middletown, RI, Dylan C. Brown of Charlotte, NC, Renn N. Brown of Portland, OR, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her son-in-law, Stevenson J. LoRusso.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kind staff at Rome Hospital and Bethany Gardens. They would also like to express specific appreciation for the second floor medical personnel at Bethany Gardens who provided such excellent care for Lois and made a very positive difference for her.
Lois' funeral will be held on Friday at 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Glenside Cemetery in the spring.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Rome.
