Obituary of Karen G. Northey

Karen Granger Northey, age 79, of the Town of Lee, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2018, at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville. Karen was born in Rome on April 6, 1938, a daughter of the late William Van Nort and Margaret Getbehead Granger. She attended the Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1956, and afterwards, graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1960, with a BA in Education. Karen taught in the Rome public schools for 30 years, retiring in June 1999. She also served as the organist at Faith Lutheran Church for 25 years until it closed in June 2000. Karen was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was also a member of the Lee Legion Post 1794 Auxiliary, the Volunteer Fire Police Auxiliary, Lee Unity Senior Citizens, and the Rome and New York State Retired Teachers' Association. Karen is survived by a daughter and son in law, Dawn and Charles Haring of Clarence, NY; two sons, Mark Egger of Rome and Todd Egger of Alpharetta, GA; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Jenna Haring. She was predeceased by a brother, William Granger. Funeral services will be held in the spring. Burial will be at Rome Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W.
