My sister in Florida emailed me and our other sister and let us know Mr. Vacca had passed away. We were saddened, but as we brought up memories of his Staley Jr. High music class, we found ourselves smiling and trading stories and agreeing that Mr. Vacca not only made studying music fun, he was a really good teacher. He made you relax with his clever wit and introduced us to a variety of music that he taught us how to diagram. Broadway tunes, jazz and most memorable for us, Beethoven's Egmont Overture. To this day, most recently heard piped in a hospital waiting room) the sound of that overture sends my sisters and I right back forty years ago into Mr. Vacca's classroom. We can still hear him saying "sit up straight, take that finger out of your nose..." Of course no one was picking their nose, but he made us giggle, he made us like learning about music, and by doing so, he enriched our lives. Thank you Mr. Vacca!

I was so sad to hear the news of Mr. Vacca's passing. I took piano lessons from Mr Vacca for many years. He was a wonderful man and role model for all of us "budding musicians." Personally for me, he inspired my love for music, but more importantly encouraged me to work hard at the things I love to do. His patience and great sense of humor are things I will always remember, and I am grateful to have had such a terrific teacher. He will truly be missed.

Mr. Vacca was one of my favorites from my RFA days. Our choir was so big it had to be split into two sections, and he used to let me check out of my study hall so I could come sing twice a day. I went on to be a teacher myself and I'm still really active with our local church choir, and so very many of the music pieces were songs I first learned with Mr. Vacca. I still think fondly of him every time I get to sing the runs in Handel's Messiah, which he took such care to teach us so patiently and so correctly! I am so sorry for your loss-- he was wonderful and is remembered very fondly. Deborah (Budelman) Brown
