Obituary of Mary Ann Buczkowski
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary went home to her Lord on November 3, 2017.
Mary was born February 22, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Walter and Victoria Soltys Slaga. At 5 months her family moved to the family farm on Watson Hollow Road, Camroden, where she lived with eight brothers and sisters. Mary graduated from Holland Patent Central School in 1939. On April 22, 1944 she married William Buczkowski in Transfiguration Church and resided in Floyd NY. Prior to Bill's passing October 11, 1992, they enjoyed their families, gardening, traveling to see their children and summers at their camp on 4th Lake, Old Forge, NY. They gave their grandchildren and great grandchildren many good memories of spending their summers with Grandma and Grandpa.
Mary worked at the Rome State School, where she lovingly cared for the boys on her unit. Prior to her and Bill's retirement, they took a group of boys up to the camp for a week of fun. Mary was a member of St Leo and St Ann Church in Holland Patent, Floyd Up and Lively Seniors and was a founding member of the Floyd Fire Department Auxiliary.
We have cherished memories of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We remember her for her work ethic, kind words of others, love, and dedication to her family and Catholic faith. She loved having the Slaga and Buczkowski families at camp where there was never a shortage of food. In recent years she enjoyed reading and watching her great grandchildren play.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Bill and Donna Dame Buczkowski, Old Forge, NY and daughter and son in law, Rosemary and Jim Nuessle, Floyd, NY. Five grandchildren, Mark (Merri) Nuessle, Centreville, MD: Scott (Kendall) Nuessle, Doswell, VA; Christopher (Megan) Buczkowski, Chesapeake, VA; Amanda (Ryan) Sauer, Essex Junction, VT; and Danielle (Cory) Wandless, Erie, PA. Eight great grandchildren: Ethan Nuessle, Josh Nuessle, Adrianna Buczkowski, Elaina Buczkowski, Mathew Buczkowski, Natalie Sauer, Olivia Sauer and Colton Wandless, one sister Rose Patala.
She was predeceased by a son Paul, granddaughter Tammy Nuessle and great grandson Adam Nuessle. Also sisters Helen Schram, Stella Remick, Leona Rostiewicz and brothers John, Frank, Michael and Edward Slaga.
We would like to thank Dr. Bruce Elwell for the care and time that he always spent with our Mom.
