Obituary of Florentine J. Beckwith

Florentine J. Beckwith, age 91, formerly of W. Dominick Street, passed away August 4, 2009, at Rome Nursing Home. She was born September 8, 1917, in Rome, a daughter of Alfred C. and Margaret Oswald Freislich, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. Florentine was united in marriage to Frederick E. Beckwith on August 19, 1939, in Rome; he died March 17, 2001. She was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring many years ago. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Florentine is survived by a daughter and son in law, Joy and Darrell Grandfield of Verona; grandchildren, James Hayes, Cathy Gripko, Cheryl Palmer, Margaret Shutter and Jerald Hayes; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Eva Freislich Pink. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 3 to 6 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
