Obituary of Francis J. Clark

Francis "Frank" J. Clark, age 88, former City Engineer for the City of Rome, passed away peacefully, March 14, 2009.
He was born April 26, 1920, in Rome a son of Francis Jefferson and Margaret Middleton Clark, and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in 1938. Frank was united in marriage to the former Leola Derrick on December 28, 1948, in St. Peter's Church; she died on December 17, 2007. Frank served as the City Engineer for 10 years and served the City of Rome for over 35 years, retiring in 1985.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division, in Africa and Europe. He was a member and former President of McConnellsville Country Club. He was the founder and active member of the Rome Historical Society, founder of the Rome Sports Hall of Fame and very active in Rome youth hockey
Frank was a devoted, loving and caring family man. He enjoyed the outdoors and taking his family camping, fishing and picnicking. Frank truly loved the City of Rome and served Rome with a great sense of pride. He was a very kind person who would help anyone and truly cherished his friends.
Frank is survived by a daughter, Karen Margaret Clark of Rome; a brother and sister in law, Robert M. and Sally Clark of Kansas; beloved grandchildren, Tiffany and Cameron; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
The family wishes to thank Frank's caregivers, Theresa, Pat, Crista and Rich for their devoted hours of care, compassion and friendship extended to Frank during his illness.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
