Obituary of Leona C. Amato
Leona C. Amato, age 79, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, with her loving family at her side.
She was born April 9, 1937, in Rome, a daughter of Edward and Alice Affolter Wilson, and attended Rome schools. Leona was united in marriage to Victor A. Amato, on September 1, 1956, in the First Baptist Church in Rome She worked for many years at Jack’s Cleaners and later at Save More Markets in Oneida.
Leona truly loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed reading, playing computer games, her trips to the Casino and crocheting.
Leona is survived by her husband of 60 years, Victor; three sons and two daughter in laws, Bradford and Ann Amato of Rome, Victor, Jr. and Jennifer Amato of Utica, and Brian Amato of Rome; two sisters and a brother in law, Charlotte Williams of Herkimer, Eleanor and Jack Griffiths of Lee Center; a brother and sister in law, Leo “Tom” and Patricia Wilson of Lee; grandchildren, Bradford Amato Jr., Devyn Fisher and Chad Murphy, Miranda Fisher and Terry Aldaco, Kevin Fisher Jr., Heather Amato and Chris Beaton, Brian Amato Jr. and Marybeth Lemmon, Toni and Adam Siefke, Sabrina Amato; great-grandchildren, Julian Aldaco, Arryella Aldaco, Christopher Beaton Jr. and Piper Lemmon and many nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by a sister, Violet Underwood; and five brothers, Everett, Edward, Enoch “Tink”, Burt “Tug”, and Jerry Wilson.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
