Michael J. Kodack, Sr., age 73, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born in Shamokin, PA on January 13, 1943 to the late Michael and Florence Brovey Kodack. He attended school in Pennsylvania. He was united in marriage to the former Darlis Knecht; she passed away on June 6, 2009. Michael proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 23 years of honorable service. During his time, he served in the Vietnam War, receiving several medals. Michael enjoyed woodworking, fishing and barbeques. He also was a model train and car enthusiast. Michael is survived by a daughter and son in law, Rachel and Ronald Bunal of Brewerton, NY; two sons and daughters in law, Michael Jr. and Elisa Kodack of Rome, and Paul and Earlene Kodack of Claude, TX; three grandchildren, Rebekah, Stephen, and Hannah; two sisters and a brother in law, GGeraldine Kulpmont and Dolores and Albert Goodlunas; two brothers and a sister in law, Gerald and Paula Kodack, and Tom Kodack; and his loving companion, Karen Stearns. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Kodack. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be private.
