Obituary of Katherine E. Burkhart

Katherine E. Burkhart, age 94, of Rome, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2012. She was born April 3, 1918, in Rome a daughter of Karl and Susie Stratton Ripley and educated in Rome schools. Katherine was united in marriage to Frederick Burkhart on May 29, 1936, in St. Mary's Church; he died in1974. She formerly was employed at Marcy Psychiatric Center, Stonehedge Nursing Home and Bethany Gardens. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Lee American Legion Auxiliary. Katherine is survived by four daughters and sons in laws, Elaine and Irving Bielby of Oneida, Nancy Burkhart of Whitesboro, Mary and Frank Lombino of Tampa, FL, and Kathy and Ulysses Upshaw of Lee Center; three sons and a daughter in law, Frederick Burkhart, Jr of Rome, John and Robin Burkhart of Gifford, PA, and Mark Burkhart of Utica; a sister, Shirley Sutter of Rome; a brother, Robert Ripley of Phoenix, NY; several grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Camello and two sons, Karl and David Burkhart and sisters and brothers. Graveside services will be private. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
