Alice D. Michael, age 91, of North Bay, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.
Alice was born in Rome on March 18, 1924 to the late Gennaro and Cristina DelVecchio. On August 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Joseph Michael, in the Church of St. John the Baptist; he passed away on June 26, 2008. She graduated from Oneonta State Teacher's College and taught in the Rome City School District.
Alice was a member of the Theresians and the Marion Guild at the Church of St. John the Baptist. She was former President of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Rome from 1968-1969. She was chosen to receive the Instructor for Excellence in Teaching Award for New York State from 1967-1968.
Alice is survived by two daughters, Alyson Michael, and Mary Ellen Michael Fleming and a grandson, Zachary Fleming. She was predeceased by a sister, Connie Dandino; and three brothers, Orlando, Charles, and Nick Del Vecchio.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Church of St. John the Baptist, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be private.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice & Palliative Care or to the Building Fund at the Humane Society of Rome, NY
