Please share a memory of Murl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Murl Marie (Paine) Oram, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Lee Center, on January 14, 2012, with her family by her side. Murl was born to Harold and Jennie (Peter) Paine at their home in Point Rock, on February 9, 1924. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1939, and later graduated from the Utica School of Commerce. Murl was employed as the very first Court Stenographer of the Children's Court in Utica. She also worked as a part-time Postal Clerk in Lee Center Post Office for 31 years, retiring in 1990. On May 25, 1943, Murl married Lee. E. Oram at the Point Rock Methodist Church. Following Lee's service with the US Army Air Corps, during WW II, they made their home in Lee Center. In 1957, they joined the Lee Center Methodist church where they were active members supporting the missions and activities of the church for the remainder of their lives. Murl's greatest joy was found spending time at home with her family and friends. Her home was a welcome respite filled with love and laughter for both her immediate and extended family. Murl also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and various card games—especially Bridge and Pinochle. Murl will be remembered for generations for her generous heart and selfless service to others. Murl is survived by two sons, Michael and wife, Molly, Ray and wife, Sharon and a daughter, Linda Peters. She is also survived by sisters, Norma Cook, and Lamoine and Bill Ziankoski and a brother, Harold and Millie Paine. She is also proud Grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Murl was predeceased by her husband, Lee, who passed away at home November 21, 1988; son in law, Wally Peters, brothers, Cletus, Leland (Bud), Harland, Harlow and Norman, sisters, Edith Pendrak and Beatrice Smith, brothers in law, Richard Cook, Winfield Smith and sister in law, Betty Paine. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Chester Patrick and the entire Rome Hospital staff, for the care they provided. Additionally, the family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice, for enabling Murl to come home, and to Pastor Deb Wollaber for her spiritual support. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM, at the Lee Center United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Point Rock Cemetery in the spring. Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Friday from 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lee Center United Methodist, Point Rock Cemetery Association or Hospice.
