Obituary of John B. Stoehr

John B. Stoehr, Jr., son of the late John B. and Deliah Hanley Stoehr, was drafted to play for the "Heavenly Basketball Team", on November 25, 2014.
He was born on August 22, 1928, In Altoona, PA., and was educated in Pennsylvania schools. He formerly worked at SKF in Altoona, PA, retiring many years ago. John was united in marriage to the former Marietta Jean Sestito, on May 24, 1985, in St. Paul's Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Toccolana Club and Henry P. Smith Post 24, American Legion.
John was an avid sports enthusiast. He played for the U.S. Army Basketball Teamduring his army service. He was a golfer, bowler and bocce player; having played on the Revere Golf Team and many bocce teams in Altoona, PA. He also was an avid Bridge player. John also was very active in the community; he volunteered at the VA Clinic, taught Strong Bones Classes at the Utica Senior Center, taught Swedish Weaving, and belonged to the Wednesday RSVP group at the Ava Dorfman Senior Center
John is survived by his loving wife, Marietta Jean Booton Stoehr; daughters and sons in law, Diane and Charles Griffen, Debra and Robert McCoy, Ivy and Kevin McDonough, and Bethany and Larry Robinson; sons and daughters in law, Brian Stoehr, Patrick and Denise Stoehr and Edwin R. and Sandra Booton; brothers in law and a sister in law, Rev. Joseph Sestito and Brian and Doreen Kelly; 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Stoehr, a son, Jack Stoehr, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at the Church of St. John the Baptist with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio, Rev. Joseph Sestito and Rev. Robert Kelly concelebrating.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. John the Baptist Memorial Fund.
