Robert (Bob) "Jake" Rosen age 86, of Rome, died on April 14, 2014, at Masonic Care Community in Utica. His daughter Lynn, his pride and joy, was by his side comforting him. They enjoyed a very special father-daughter bond. Bob was born August 26, 1927 in Rome New York to Jake Rosen and Simi Lipschitz. On June 11, 1955, he married Mary Ann Savoca. Together they enjoyed a blessed union in marriage of 56 years. Bob was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann, his sisters, Ida Rosen and Alice McColloch. He was also predeceased by Winston, his devoted K-9 companion who was always on his arm, on his lap or under his coat, and who brought him great joy. Bob is survived by his cherished and devoted daughter Lynn, who he affectionately referred to as "Sunshine" and her fiancé, John H Dominic Jr, who will miss the Thursday nights they spent together at the local establishments. He also leaves behind his feline friend, Lamont, who provided a great deal of companionship. Bob also leaves a longtime friend, Guido Fanfarillo. Bob graduated from Rome Free Academy in the Class of 1945. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as the ship's tailor on the USS Kalusahachy. Bob was proprietor of Rosen's Menswear, a family owned business. It was a wellknown clothing establishment in downtown Rome for many years. In the 1970's Bob made an investment in the community and built a state of the art department store, which was known as "Rosens." Bob was always an innovator throughout his 75 years of business. He later joined his wife Mary Ann (founder) at her business venture, known as Resident Shoppers Service. Bob enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including many sporting and outdoor activities. He participated in several bowling leagues and softball leagues. He enjoyed playing golf, belonging to several country clubs in New York and Florida. He had a passion for music. In the 1950's, he organized the SPBQSA (Society for Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America). He played drums in a high school band called "The Rhythm Masters" and Bob was always willing to break out the ukulele and sing at a moment's notice. He enjoyed summers spent with his wife on their boat on the St. Lawrence River. He was an avid skier. Bob was passionate about flying and obtained his pilot's license. He also had an interest in horses and owned several over the years. Bob belonged to many organizations, including: Teugega Country Club, Beaver Brook Country Club, Fort Lauderdale Country Club Florida, Bonaventure Country Club Florida, Monarch Country Club, Fort Stanwix Hose Company No 2, Masonic Brotherhood of Masons, 40 & 8 Club, Volunteer Benevolent Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Rome Post 2246, Roman-Hatheway Lodge No. 223, Henry P. Smith Post #24, Rome Elks Club #96 and The Humane Society of Rome. The family would like to extend heartfelt and sincere thanks to everyone at the Masonic Care Community Troy Rehabilitation Unit. Dr. Olteanu (Dr. "0") and the entire staff provided the utmost of care to Bob during his stay and it was deeply appreciated. Special thanks go to Dr. I. Renza Samad and his wonderful staff for the care Bob had received over the years. Thanks also to Bob's extended family, The Resident Shoppers Service family, they always lent a helping hand unselfishly. Lastly, sincere thanks to his dedicated caregivers, Shirley, Wendy and a very special friend of the family and care companion, Marie. Bob enjoyed his life to the fullest. He loved having his 'tish and a tash.' As Bob would say, "If I don't see you in the future, I'll see you in the pasture." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's memory to The Humane Society of Rome Building Fund. Services will be private. There are no calling hours.
