Obituary of Elaine A. Kaiser

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Elaine Ann (Stagliano) Kaiser, 77, passed from this life peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center from complications of Vascular Dementia.

Elaine was born February 24, 1947, the daughter of Anthony and Carmella (Malvaso) Stagliano, in Rome. Elaine was educated in Rome City Schools and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.  After graduation, she worked various clerical jobs until she found her true calling in nursing. Elaine attended the BOCES nursing program and became an LPN. After graduation, Elaine accepted a position at Genesee Nursing Home. From there, she spent the majority of her 30-year nursing career working at both St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital. She also worked at several area nursing homes just prior to her retirement.

After retirement, Elaine filled her days shopping at garage sales on the weekends with her daughter, Michele, taking trips to Oneida Lake in her Mustang convertible, playing Keno at Turning Stone Casino, and gathering with friends and family for holidays and cookouts. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of her retirement was spending time with her grandson, Ian, who was the apple of her eye. There was always a full itinerary of Ian and Grandma time. From movies, to lunch or dinner at their favorite places, or ice cream, they kept on the go. She would sometimes push her daughter and son-in-law to have a date night so she could babysit Ian. In her earlier years, Elaine did much traveling across the United States. She enjoyed her trips to Disneyworld, Las Vegas, and Mexico the most. She loved playing bingo, reading, and completing crossword puzzles.

Elaine possessed a deep loving and caring nature of animals of any kind. She especially loved her beautiful Maine Coon cat, Buddy. While she was still able to live on her own, you could find her sitting on her patio feeding the neighborhood squirrels, chipmunks, and bird watching.

At a mere 5’ tall, Elaine could best be described as a little spitfire with a wonderfully witty sense of humor and an infectious laugh that will be so missed by her family.

Elaine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michele (Sullivan) and Kevin Barefoot and her grandson, Ian Barefoot, of Floyd; her twin brother, Dr. Michael (Bridgett) Stagliano, Blythewood, SC; special cousin, Jean Logan, Myrtle Beach, SC, who would call Elaine several times a week to check up on her; and several other cousins in the Rome and Syracuse areas. She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Carmella.

In keeping with Elaine’s wishes, services are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, NY and will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

For those that wish to do so, donations can be made in Elaine’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Rome Humane Society.

The family would like to thank the staff of MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Clark North Unit, for their unwavering kindness and compassion to both the family and Elaine in her last days of life. The effort put forth to ensure Mom was comfortable until the end will never be forgotten and cherished as a comforting memory during this difficult time.
