Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carol C. Freeman, age 90, of Rome, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024 at the Rome Health Residential Healthcare Facility.

Carol was born in Rome on April 8, 1934, and was educated in Rome schools. On January 1, 1954, she was united in marriage to Roderick Freeman at the First United Methodist Church in Rome; a blessed union of over 45 years until his passing on March 16, 1999. Carol worked as a dental assistant before she and Rod adopted two children; later in life she worked as an usher at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

Carol was an extraordinary person who was a dedicated mother, wife and caregiver to her husband who battled multiple sclerosis. She was most content managing her home and caring for her family. She volunteered at the First United Methodist Church and as a Rome Hospital TWIG.  She was an amazing, strong, selfless, kind, and well-respected woman who was always willing to help others.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Karen Williams, and special son-in-law Jonathan, of Rome; son, Brent Freeman and wife Lila of Menahga, MN; grandsons, Roderick, Brent Jr., and Michael Freeman; two great grandchildren, Amelia, and Jaxson; sister-in-law, DeEtte VanVechten of Rome; a niece, Lauren Marshall of Rome; and nephews, Mark and wife Barbara of Port Byron, N.Y. and Bruce VanVechten of Rome.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband and brother, Clarence “Pat” F. VanVechten III.

The family would like to thank Dr. Podkowka and the exceptional staff of the 3 North Rome Health RHCF for their care, kindness, and compassion shown to Carol.

Carol’s funeral will be held on Monday, July 29th, 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
