Obituary of Kenneth Eugene Kilmartin

“Ken” Kilmartin, 81, of Rome New York passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2024.  Ken was born on February 27, 1943, to Kenneth R and Beverly “Jayne” Kilmartin in Amsterdam, New York.  After graduating from Fonda Fultonville High School in 1961, Ken enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for a total of 6 years, 4 years active duty as a Petty Officer 2nd Class in Aviation Electronics Navigation, with 2 years in the US Reserves.  While serving in the armed forces, Ken studied electrical engineering. 

While continuing to serve our nation in the Reserves, Ken began his career at General Electric Healthcare Systems in 1965 as a Regional Field Engineer.  He was a dedicated employee and enjoyed his work.  He retired on December 31, 2008, after 44 years.

In 1962, Ken married his high school sweetheart Mary (Krawczak) Kilmartin in Schenectady New York.  Ken and Mary had 2 sons, Brian Kilmartin and Kevin Kilmartin.  They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in November 2023.

Ken enjoyed “do it yourself” home improvement projects and grooming his yard.  He took pride in his home.  He looked forward to hunting and fishing each year.  The thing Ken enjoyed most was spending time with his family and friends, especially during the holiday season.  He was patriotic and has a sincere appreciation of the armed forces

Ken was a devoted husband, father, and an amazing grandfather to his grandson Ryan Kilmartin.  He is survived by his wife Mary, sons Brian (Kristen) and Kevin, his grandson Ryan and his dearest friends Sally Prossner and Dennis Tetkowski.  Ken was predeceased by his father, Kenneth R Kilmartin and his mother, Beverly “Jayne” Kilmartin.

Ken’s family would like to extend a very special Thank You to the all the health care professionals who cared for him throughout the last couple of years.  We truly appreciate all you did for him.

Private funeral services with Military Honors will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery.

  The family asks you to honor Ken in a way that is special to you.  In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
