Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Norma Marie (Mathis) Plopper, 95, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024.

Norma was born on January 6, 1929 the 3rd of 11 children to the late Otto and Florentine Mathis. She attended West Leyden school and graduated in 1947 as the Salutatorian of her class. On May 21, 1949 she was united in marriage to Fremont Plopper at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church. A blessed union that would last 64 years until his death in 2013.

Norma opened her own salon in Rome, “Norma’s Beauty Shop,” and was also a hairdresser for the State. She was very active in her parish, St. Mary’s, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary society, a bingo volunteer, and a Eucharistic Minister. You could always find her at one of her grandchildren’s sporting events or cheering on her beloved New York Yankees. But above everything, Norma loved being Judge Plopper’s wife most of all. You never saw Norma without Fremont or Fremont without Norma. They were very active members State Magistrate Association and had a great love of camping, gardening, bowling, and traveling together. The family takes great peace in knowing they are together again.

Survived are her son and daughter in law, Fremont and Patricia Plopper; daughter, Patrice Fonda; son in law, Thomas Engle; grandchildren, Catherine (Kurt) Nordman, Shawn (Anne) Casler, Ryan (Jessica) Plopper, Thomas (Megan) Engle Jr, Michael Biondi, and Ashley Engle; great grandchildren, Jonathan Casler, Sarah and Ella Nordman, Kaylee Biondi, and Eleanor and Penelope Engle; sisters, Joyce (Robert) Parkhurst, Marjorie (Robert) Schaller, and Lynda (Duane) Wallace; brothers, Warren (Eleanor) Mathis, John Mathis, and Rodney (Holly) Mathis; and many, many special nieces and nephews. Norma was predeceased by her husband, Fremont; daughter, Robyn Engle; granddaughter, Kimberly Casler; sisters, Virginia Kemme and Marilyn Reigler; and brothers Donald and James Mathis.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Terrace at Woodland and Bethany Gardens for their wonderful care of Norma.
