Kathleen Belle Finster, age 81, of Rome, passed away peacefully March 17, 2014, with her loving family at her side.
She was born May 10, 1932, in Rome, a daughter of the late George (Earl) and Kathryn Steever Sheldon, and educated in Westmoreland schools. Kathleen was united in marriage to Robert F. Finster, Sr., on January 26, 1952, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church; he died December 19, 2002. She worked at the former Rome CNYDSO, retiring many years ago.
Kathleen love crocheting, shopping on QVC, collecting ladybugs and dolls and serving ice cream to her grandchildren. As a young woman, Kathleen was an accomplished swimmer and enjoyed swimming at
Lake Delta.
Kathleen is survived by four sons and three daughters in law, John "Jack" R. and Debbie Finster of Evans Mills, Robert F. Jr., and Karen Finster of Rome, James V. and April Finster of Rome, and Bruce F. Finster of Rome; three sisters and a brother in law, Charlotte Bickley of Rome, Joyce Luck of Port Pierce, FL and Rachel and James Whycoff of Phillipsburg, NJ; grandchildren, John and Tiffany Finster, Sharon and Stew Rood, Laurie and Joe Ceravolo, Mystic and Travis Jordan, Kimberly Pitcher and the late Matt Pitcher, Steven Finster, Michael and Kasey Jo Finster, Kristina Finster, Jamie Finster, Gabrielle and Tommy Dunn, Bruce Finster, Jr., and Christopher Finster; great grandchildren, Catherine, Caroline, Maria, Brooke, Julia, Cody, Layla, Madalyn, Miles, Olivia, Arriana, Lilah and 2 "on the way"; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and brothers, Lourene Wilson, Vincent Smith, Philip Smith and Earl Sheldon.
The family sends a special thank you to Bethany Gardens, 2 North at Rome Hospital and Fr. Philip Hearn who went above and beyond with their care and compassion shown to Kathleen.
A memorial service will held on Saturday at 1 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be private.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Humane Society.
