Obituary of Anna Maria deRiemer-Gallay

Anna Maria deRiemer Gallay, age 83, of the Town of Lee, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, with her loving family at her side.

She was born on December 18, 1939, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, a daughter of the late Gosewienus Gijsbert and Matje Streefkerk deRiemer, and educated in Dutch schools.  Anna was united in marriage to Sherman Gallay on June 8, 1968, in Rome. 

Anna’s passion in life was to help other people and groups.  She was an active volunteer for the Rome Twigs, parent-teacher groups in the school system and a passionate volunteer for the Rome CNYDSO.

Anna is survived by her husband, Sherman; son and daughter in law, David and Barbara Gallay of Madison, Wisconsin; and grandchildren, Amaya and Blake.  She was predeceased by a son, Joshua Gallay.

A celebration of Life will be held on Thursday at 4: 00 PM, at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 3 to 4 PM, prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Special Olympics New York.
