George H. Thayer, age 58, of Verona, passed away at home on February 26, 2014. George was born in Rome on October 13, 1955 to the late Harold and Anna Krenceski Thayer. He graduated from VVS high school. On August 28, 1993, he married the former Karen Spiegel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rome. George worked as a CNC operator for United Technologies Corporation in Rome. George loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter with his longtime friend, Paul Swistak, and enjoyed fishing and golfing as well. He was proud of his Harley Fat Boy and always kept it clean. Above all, he was a family man and his family meant the world to him. George is survived by his loving wife, Karen; two children, Ashley and Daniel; and a sister, Luann Thayer of Verona. He was predeceased by a brother, Chris. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 5 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be private Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
