Please share a memory of Leona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leona M. Ziminski, of Rome, passed away peacefully, February 28th, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL, with her daughters by her side.
She was born May 26, 1922, in New York Mills, a daughter of the late Walter and Pauline (Fijol) Zamiarski, and educated at St. Mary's School in New York Mills. Leona was formerly married to Darwin J. Hulbert for 28 years and later married Edward S. Ziminski Sr. who died in 1988. She was a member of St. Peter's Church for over 65 Years.
Leona was a home maker for much of her life always putting everyone first. For over 30 years, she helped her daughter by creating beautiful floral arrangements for Klassy Krafts. Because of her thoughtfulness, she was the unofficial caregiver to many throughout her years. She loved playing bingo, playing cards with her grandchildren and going out to dinner. Mom was a sincere and charitable soul to all including the birds and her many pets.
Those who were close to her called her "Leoncha". Prayers were said for anyone that needed them. It was a standing joke that she had a special connection. She was a wonderful, strong, inspiring person and the "Heart and Soul" of the family and to the many who crossed her path.
Leona is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Carolee (Hulbert) & Russell Watson, Rome, NY, Andrea Hulbert of West Palm Beach, FL, Beverly (Hulbert) Esche, Marcy, NY; stepsons and spouses, Ronald and Linda Ziminski, Rome, NY, John and Deborah Ziminski, Monterey, TN., Paul and Sharon Ziminski, Rome, NY, and was predeceased by Edward Ziminski, Jr. She leaves seven grandchildren, Carolee's daughter, Debra ( Ziminski) and Dale Knox of West Palm Beach, FL, Lisa (Esche) and Raymond Meyers of Marcy, NY, Robert Esche and Kelly of Westmorland, NY, Henry Esche of Whitesboro, NY, Daniel Esche of Marcy, NY, Cassandra ( Ziminski) and Eric Moyer, Chuluota, FL, and Jodi Ziminski, West Palm Beach, FL. She always remembered her two grandsons, Eliot Esche and Paul Ziminski, Jr., who passed before her; she held a special place in her heart for them. She leaves ten great, grandchildren, Zachary Knox, Jordan, Raymond, Lindsey, and Madisyn Meyers, Ashlynn and Waylon Esche, Abagail, Mitchell, and Kaitlyn Moyer. In addition, she leaves her sister, Gladys Jarzombek of Rome; two special friends Steve Clinton of Marcy and Nicola Paolucci of West Palm Beach; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
