Obituary of James Frederick Neary
James “Rick” Neary, age 74, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023, with his wife of 43 years, Lorinda, by his side, at the Abraham House of Rome, under the care of Hospice.
James was born in Omaha, NE on October 26, 1948 to the late James T. and Janet McDaniel Neary. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and was stationed at the Berlin Wall, where he was assigned to an artillery unit, until 1971. While there, he was played guitar in a trio that provided entertainment for the troops. In 1973, he was united in marriage to the former Lorinda Lockwood, whom he met in Omaha.
James and Lorinda relocated to Lewis County in 1980 where he worked for Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper, retiring when it closed. He returned to college and completed his associate’s degree in drafting, from MVCC in 2004. He later worked for ConMed, retiring in 2014. Lorinda and James owned a farm in the Town of Verona for 25 years as well.
James is survived by his loving wife, Lorinda; his son and daughter in law, Christopher Frederick and Melissa (Romero) Neary; and his grandson, Aidan Christopher Neary.
Per James’ wishes there will be no formal services.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks and gratitude to the Abraham House and Hospice staff in Rome, the Rome VA Clinic, and Syracuse VA Palliative Care for their support and loving care of James.
Donations in James’ name may be made to the Abraham House of Rome and/or Hospice.
