Obituary of Rhonda L. Sherman
Rhonda L. Sherman, age 69, of Westernville, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, at SUNY Upstate after a lifelong battle with Multiple Sclerosis, with her family by her side.
Rhonda was born in Rome on December 18, 1953 to Ronald and Ruth Potter Mortis. She graduated from Rome Free Academy and received her Associate's Degree from SUNY Morrisville. On July 14, 1973, she was united in marriage to Frederick Sherman. She worked as a dietician for the Rome City School District.
Rhonda was a selfless person who was always caring for others. She never complained about anything no matter how bad the situation was. She enjoyed skiing, boating, swimming, gardening, and bird watching. She loved to watch CMT, the Game Show Network, and the Hallmark Channel. Rhonda was a member of the Westernville Presbyterian Church. Her greatest love was her family, especially her three granddaughters.
Rhonda is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Fred; her daughters, Kristy (Neal Stelter) Sherman of Syracuse, and Nicole (Perry) Edwards of State College, PA; her loving granddaughters, Addisyn, Zoe, and Mae; her mother, Ruth; her sisters, Ranee Mortis, and Robin (Carl "Bucky") Eddy; her brother, Rodney (Karen) Mortis; her niece, Hilary (Matthew) Huising, and their daughter, Haley; her nephew, John Eddy; and her K-9 companion, Buddy. She was predeceased by her father, Ronald.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Visiting Nurses Association for over 20 years of care and compassion; her caregivers, Darlene, Renee, Connie, Sharon, Pam and Justin; and to her family friends that cared for her as well, Cindy, Janet, Louanne, Bonnie, and Shirley for all the care, support, and love that you all provided.
Rhonda's funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 AM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Westernville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.
