Obituary of Bernard V. Penczek

Bernard V. Penczek, age 88, of Westernville, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023.

 

He was born July 12, 1935, in Boonville, a son of the late Joseph M. and Laura Golik Penczek, and educated in Boonville schools.  Bernard was united in marriage to the former Irene M. Kulisz, on June 28, 1958, in the Church of the Transfiguration; she passed away on December 23, 2017.  He was employed at Revere Copper Products and retired in 1997, after 41 years of service.

 

Bernard was proud of and well known for his beautiful gardens, winning the Victory Garden Competition in 1988, receiving the silver trowel.  He was a member of many garden clubs, and loved sharing his passion for gardening with the many visitors he had throughout the years. 

 

Bernard is survived by a daughter, Melissa of Whitesboro; a son and daughter in law, David and Lisa of Turin; a sister, Laura Hroboni of West Leyden; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Sydney Penczek of Boonville; grandchildren, Stacie and Michael Ramos of Glenfield, Andrew and Brittany Penczek of Auburn, and Evan and Hannah Penczek of Monson, MA; and two great grandchildren, Henry and Heidi Penczek.  He was predeceased by siblings, Teresa Toth, Bernice Penczek and Joseph Penczek.

 

The family would like to give a very special thank you to his wonderful caregivers, Lucy, Tricia, and Janice, who really became like family to him.  The family would also like to thank the Abraham House of Rome for their special care.

 

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Boonville.

 

There are no calling hours.

 

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

 

Donations can be made to the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St. Utica, NY  13501, in memory of Bernard.
