Obituary of Irene Meier

Irene Meier, age 96, of Rome, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, with her loving family at her side.

She was born May 30, 1927, in Rome a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Amann Roser, and educated in Rome schools.  Irene was united in marriage to Alfred T. Meier, on September 20, 1947, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church; he died on February 21, 2010.  She was a member of St. Peter’s Church.

Irene was a loving and caring stay-at-home mom.  She was well known for her knitting of hats, mittens, sweaters, and blankets for all the family and many of her friends. Along with her baking skills that she put out for family members every Sunday when they came to visit. Irene looked forward to spending time weekly with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Irene is survived by three daughters and sons in law, Patricia M. and Anthony Rotolo of Crystal Lake, IL, Sandra M. and Kilburn White of Ravena, NY, and Barbara M. and Paul Matwijec of Westmoreland; three sons and two daughters in law, Raymond A. and Kim Meier of Rome, Alfred R. Meier of Rome, and Ronald and Andrea Meier of Whitesboro; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by three sisters, Marguerite Toepp, Joann Reames and Eleanor Slaga, and two brothers, Raymond, and John Roser.

The family wishes to thank the staff at RHCF-3E for their care, compassion, and friendship during Irene’s stay.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Peters Church or to the charity of your choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM, at St. Peter’s Church.  Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at St. Peter’s Church on Friday from 10 to 11 AM, prior to the funeral Mass.
