Obituary of Richard M. Platt
Richard M. Platt, age 80, of the Town of Western, passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was met at the Rainbow bridge by his five fur-babies, Cody, Dude, Ralph, Sassy, and Pita.
Richard was born in Rome on May 1, 1943 to the late Erwin Mezler and Isabelle Platt, and educated in the Boonville Schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. On December 16th 1967, he was united in marriage to his wife Suzanne Patricia Seymour of Boonville, NY. Richard worked at several area companies including Revere Copper, Griffiss AFB, and for the Town of Western.
Richard was a life-time member of the Boonville Elks, Westernville Legion Post 1846, and Westernville Fire Department. He was also a member of the Boonville VFW. He loved the outdoors and like to hunt and fish.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Tammie Jenkins of Boonville; his sons, Lonnie Platt of Boonville, and Richard (Jacquelyne Reeder) of West Leyden; his grandchildren, Breanna (Joshua) Wright, Sierra Platt, Brandon and Brett Platt, and Kaylee “The Professor” Halkovitch; his great grandchildren, Alize and Myah Platt, and Mychael “The Boss” Wright; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Brittany Platt; and his son in law, Stephen Jenkins.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
Donations in Richard’s name may be made to the Westernville Fire Department and/or the American Cancer Society.
