My first memory of June was a visit to my mother’s house in Fairhaven with her two small children. My brother Don, the oldest brother, was probably there, but I only remember June and the little kids. I was seven or less years old. She spoke kindly to me and praised my gentleness with the little kids. I still remember that great feeling of pride she gave me, many years later. A few years later, we moved to Beverly and did not live far from my brother Don and his family. I know he stopped and visited a lot with my mom but mostly I remember June. She was 14 years older than me, a young mother, and I was a preteen. June was always perfectly dressed and manicured. I will never forget the soft rose color of her fingernails and lipstick. She made such an impression on me. My sisters did not use make up. Or dress with accessories. And they were young mothers, too. But June had class and style. My mother didn’t drive, and June was so good to include my sister Bonnie and me for trips to Lynch Park in the summer.
Many many years and life circumstances intervened before I saw June again in September of 2017. Nearly 60 years in fact. I had so many things to ask her about the long-ago days. And she enjoyed reminiscing. June was absolutely delighted when I reminded her that we were still sisters, and there after we corresponded as “to my big sister, from your little sister.” That day, Joe and I spent an afternoon at Sandi and Glenn’s house, and helped with dinner by picking vegetables from the garden. I turned around, and June was popping those cherry tomatoes into her mouth, one after the other. The grin on her face was just so precious , I’ll never forget that.
Getting to know June , once she was living in Rome was a wonderful bonus to visiting with Glenn and Sandi. Joe and I found her company full of laughter and very pleasant conversations. We enjoyed long walks in the park and by the canal in spring and fall, the only times Joe and I could get to Rome for the weekend. And one very memorable weekend, Glenn brought her to visit us in New Jersey. June insisted on helping with the dishes!
The last visit we had with June was on her 90th birthday/Mother’s Day. I’m including a photo that says it all. Joe and I are so fortunate and grateful to Glenn for keeping family together. I will miss my “big sister “ June, the one with class and style.

June was always kind and warm and adored her family. David and I met June in 2016 when she moved to Rome, NY and became one of our beloved neighbors when she lived with Glenn and Sandi. Our Kettle Hill gang will not be the same without June, and we will always miss her quiet, kind manner and lovely smile, and think of her very fondly.

Dear Mom,
You taught me to love the outdoors from my earliest days. You helped me find our Lord the most precious gift. And you were always there for me when I needed someone to talk to.
I was so blessed to have you as my mom. And particularly blessed to have you near Sandi and me for the past 7 years. What fun we had from kayaking in the summer to hiking around in blizzards in the winter.
You will be missed so much for now, but we know we see each other again.
Your loving Son,
Glenn
