Paul J. Powers, Sr., 93, of Rome, NY, passed away May 6, 2023. 

Born on January 13, 1930, Paul was the son of the late Dr. Edward E. Powers and Mary Reding Powers and the youngest of eight children. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and Utica College, and an active member of St. Peter’s Church in Rome.

Paul was a true Renaissance man – an avid fisherman, golfer, hiker, photographer, tennis player, gardener, carpenter, pianist, trombonist, singer, naturalist, and dog lover.

Paul was predeceased by his loving spouse, Carole Rieck Powers. He is survived by five children, Mary Beth Powers, Rock Point, NY, Cathy (Kevin) O’Neill, Hamburg, NY, Paul (Kelley) Powers, Grafton, MA, Sean (Debbie) Powers, Guilderland, NY, and Sheila (John) Burke, Penfield, NY; twelve grandchildren, Emilie, Sean, Meg, Maura, Caroline, Paul III, Alyce, Sara, Grace, Hannah, Liam and Neil; a brother-in-law, Charles Lupica; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved family, Paul leaves behind many friends and a lifetime of stories.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 12, 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, Rome. Burial with military honors will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery

Contributions in Paul’s memory may be made to Autism Up, at autismup.org, or at 50 Science Parkway, Rochester, NY 14620.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
