Obituary of David G. Smith
David Grant Smith, of Rome, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023, after a short illness.
He was born December 18, 1939, in Rome, a son of the late George and Anne Street Smith, and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in 1958. Dave proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1963-65. He was united in marriage to the former Sharon Concis on June 14, 1971, in St. Stephen’s Church in Oriskany. Dave worked at Mills Electrical Supply until his retirement in 2001.
Dave was a fan of the New York Yankees, Frank Sinatra, and Michelob Light, and not necessarily in that order. He loved telling the story of meeting his boyhood hero, Mickey Mantle, to his grandsons. Most of all, Dave loved his family. He was the most reliable and hard-working father, and still made time to have a “Catch” with his sons after long days at work. His legacy lives on in the character and work ethic he passed on to his sons and grandsons, and they will be forever grateful.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; sons, David (Amanda) Smith of Rome, and Daniel (Diana) Smith of Albany; three grandchildren, Zachary, Alexander and Kody; brother and sister in law, David and Pat Concis; sister in law Eleanor Smith; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Rosie. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Munney, and two brothers, George and Erwin Smith.
And, there in the mists of my memory I see you. And, there in the mists of my memory you shall always be. ~Athey Thompson
