When I was a young boy of about seven years Don was 11 and was my mentor. The neighborhood kids played football in the parking lot near his house --- and a few of us even ran into a parked car once in a while. I had a pretty good cut on my face, but it did not matter. We had a lot of fun. I remember my dad coming to pick me up one night--- we had been having so much fun that we played football into the night. I don't know how we even saw the ball but who cared? I also remember sneaking onto the nearby train tracks to put pennies on the track and watch them get flattened. It was awesome! I miss those times when life was simple and fun. While we all eventually went our separate ways I will always remember Don as a true friend and am reminded of him quite a lot --- my younger brother was named after him. God bless.
