Obituary of Shirley Irene Tanner
Shirley I. Tanner, age 86, of the Town of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home, with her family by her side, on November 28, 2022, after a long illness.
Shirley was born in Butternuts, NY on October 3, 1936. She worked at the Milk Plant in West Leyden for over 30 years, where many people enjoyed and loved her cooking. She was a member of the 40/8 La Societe de Femme Cabane #1220.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. When she wasn't spending time with her family or her two dogs, Cocoa and Tiny, she could be found trying her luck on the slot machines at the casino. She loved playing pitch with her family and friends, and nothing was more fun than being on her team when you "set" the opponent. Her smile and the joy in her eyes will be missed by many.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Stephen) Kinstle of Westmoreland, and Ellin (Colin) Vogel of Cheetowaga, NY; her son in law, Stephen Thorn; her grandchildren, Anthony Wahl, Brandon Lambert, Rebecca Lambert, Lawrence Meus, Lindsey Meus, Kyle Thorn, Khrysta Thorn, and Cassandra Wahl; great grandchildren, Desiree Jester, Elizabeth Meus, Joseph Farda, Khloe Watkins, Jakob Watkins, Alexis Smithling, Stela Wahl, and Warren Wahl; and her stepchildren, Deborah (Alton) Rocker of Garland, TX, Charles (Kim) Tanner, Scott (Debbie) Tanner, Laurie Secor, Sharon (Joseph) Cullings, Brian (Stacy) Tanner all of West Leyden, and Tracy Tanner of Rome. She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Tanner; her daughters, Joann Lambert and Linda Thorn; her son, Andrew Wahl; and stepchildren, Danny and Michael Tanner.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to hospice for the wonderful care given to Shirley. Also, a special thanks to mom's nurses from Prospero Health, especially nurse LeShan.
Shirley's funeral will be held on Thursday at 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be on Friday at 11 AM at Carr Cemetery in Marcy.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
