Obituary of Nancy J. Fliss
Nancy J. Fontana Fliss, age 64, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at home surrounded by loving family and friends.
Nancy was born in Rome, on August 23, 1958 to the late Saul and Barbara Bazell Fontana, and graduated from RFA. She worked as a retail manager at Steinbach's Department Store in New Hartford, and most recently for the Rome City School District. On May 17, 1996, she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Fliss, a happy union of nearly 13 years until his passing on January 11, 2009.
Nancy’s life revolved around her family. She dearly loved them and adored her grandchildren. She became an expert at Chromebook during Covid, home schooling Ryleigh and Julian. She enjoyed family dinners, holiday gatherings and traveling. She found not only tranquility in yoga, but some dear friends. Nancy lived and loved every minute of her life. She will be missed more than words can express.
She is survived by her dear daughter, Arlene Gallardo; her grandchildren, Trevor Fliss (whom she raised as her son), and Ryleigh and Julian Gallardo; her sisters, Jean Fontana, Anne Fontana Gescheider, and Sally Fontana Clark, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved black labs. She is predeceased by an infant daughter, Alicia Jo, her husband Jack, and her sister, Mary Fontana. A special thanks to Nancy’s caregivers, who treated her like the precious sunshine that she is.
