Karl Cousin

Obituary of Karl M. Cousin

Please share a memory of Karl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Karl Matthew Cousin passed away suddenly; unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday evening, July 26, 2022.  The son of Eric (Becky) Cousin and Mary (Tony) Weaver.  He was born and raised in Rome, and attended Oriskany Central Schools and graduated from Ilion High School.  Karl was involved with several sports, including football, baseball and track.

Karl was known for his excellent craftmanship and there was rarely a day he wasn’t working on or brainstorming about a new project.  He lived by a motto instilled by his father; “plan the work, work the plan."

Karl was an avid racing fan and enjoyed spending his free time watching anything from dirt races to NASCAR.  From a very young age, Karl cheered loud and proud for the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Sabres, and was never embarrassed to admit it.

Karl always tried to look on the bright side and was the biggest “Teddy Bear” with the kindest soul.  He will be remembered for many things, but no one will ever forget his wittiness, playful smirk and compassion for helping others.

Karl is survived by his father, Eric (Becky); step-father, Tony: siblings, Lindsey (Gary) Rende, Erica (Andy) Cousin, Kyle (Elyssa) Cousin and Michael Weaver; along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins.  He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Weaver, and grandfather, Fred Rutherford.  Some of Karl’s favorite memories were created with his niece, Olivia, and nephews, Vinny and Sawyer; he loved the title of “Uncle Karl."

Karl leaves behind many friends and family in mourning.  He got through many hard days and shared many happy times with his best friends Jason and Gary.  One of Karl’s best days was spent at Bristol Motor Speedway; never forgetting the laps they took on the track.

Although things may not have been perfect, Karl was forever grateful for the love and unconditional support received from Lyndsay, (Sully, Saylor and Stryder) and her family during the years they shared together.  Karl loved Lyndsay until his final breath and knew she always wanted what was best for him, and he for her.

An invitation to attend a celebration of Karl’s life is extended to friends and family at the Barry Funeral Home, on Friday August 5, 2022, from 4 to 6 PM.  Everyone is encouraged to wear Blue and Yellow in honor of his love for the Buffalo Sabres.
