MaryAnne Powell, 83, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2022.

She was born on Friday, May 13, 1938 to Frank and Lucille Sikora. She always said that Friday the 13th was her lucky day. MaryAnne married her high school sweetheart Kenneth Powell and enjoyed a loving union of 50 years raising six children. She was employed at the Rome DSO for 50 years and 1 day with the purpose of beating her father's work history. 

During her years at Rome DSO, she received many awards and acknowledgements related to work and community activities. She volunteered at the Rome Art and Community Center as well as the Rome Community Theater. 

Maryanne was an active member of St John’s Lutheran Church singing in the church choir.
She took her singing career on the road singing at weddings, funerals and into the community when needed. She also led the Rome DSO choir for many years. The Rome Polish Home had a special place in MaryAnne's heart because her father was one of the original founders. She was an active board member, hostess and greeter. MaryAnne was a kind and welcoming person who could talk with anyone and find a connection.

She had many close friends who shared each other’s families, and traveled all over the world together. If you were a friend of MaryAnne’s you were a friend for life…no getting away! MaryAnne’s passing has left a hole in many hearts. The memories of her legacy will continue with all those who held her close. ♥️

MaryAnne is survived by her loving children, Valerie and Dennis Carey of Ava, Laura Bloom of Rome, Cynthia and John Peters of Vernon Center, Julie Powell-Acton and Richard Acton of Marcy, and Christopher and Deborah Powell of Rochester; two sisters, Janice Pelletier of Las Vegas, NV, and Rita Behr of Oneida, a sister-in-law, Nicoletta Powell of Rome; and a special friend, Dan Zaglaniczny. She has 11 grandchildren,18 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandson making five generations. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Powell, a brother, Julian (Jay) Sikora, a son, Kenneth (Rick) Powell, and a grandson, Brendan Powell.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, at 11:00 AM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.
