Obituary of Robert Leahy

Robert Leahy, age 86, of the Town of Floyd, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.

Bob was born in South Ozone Park, New York on August 3, 1935 to the late William and Elsie Smith Leahy. Ons April 24, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Joan Jugenheimer; a blessed union of over 61 years until her passing  on January 20, 2022. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a SMSGT with over 26 years of honorable service. He worked as a maintanence supervisior and retired from U.S. Airways.

Bob loved sports and was an avid Mets and Giants fan. He enjoyed building model airplanes especially F-16's. He loved his community and served it as a member and former president of the Floyd Fire Department, and the Floyd Drum and Bugle Corps. If you ever ventured to the clam stand at the Floyd Field Days, you would find Bob serving dozens of clams with a smile on his face. He was also the former commander of the Leon Roberts Post 161 Legion in Holland Patent.

Robert is survived by his children, Donna Leahy Ridenour of Chicago, Timothy and Sherri Leahy of Warner Robins, GA, and Coleen and John Firsching of Floyd; grandchildren, Jami Leahy, Kasey Leahy, Mackenzie Ridenour, Nathan LaFluer and fiancée, Molly Sumner, Elizabeth Firsching, and Siobhan Firsching; a great grandchild, Axel Sumner; and a brother in law, Fritz Repich. He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Repich.

A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held on Friday, at 11:00 AM at  St. Peter's Church.

Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Thursday from to 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care and/or the Floyd Fire Department.
