Obituary of Filomena G. Rena

Filomena G. Rena, age 91, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021, with her loving family at her side.

She was born January 11, 1930, in Utica, a daughter of the late Sebastiano and Maria Salamida Gigante, and graduated from Proctor High School in 1948.  Filomena was formerly married to Leonard Arena.  She worked at FMS on Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring after many years of service and later worked at the South Rome Senior Center.  She was a member of St. Mary’s/St. Peter’s Parish.

Filomena’s life revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for and entertaining family and friends.  She also loved her church and volunteered at St. Mary’s Church Bingo for many years.

Filomena is survived by her Children, Kathryn Finster of Rome, and Len Rena of Rome; grandchildren, Dan and Kayla Rena, Felicia Shreiner, Ashley Rena, Gabrielle and Thomas Dunn, Bruce Finster, Jr, Christopher Finster, and Jasmin Schell and Austin Hannafon; great grandchildren, Alexandria Dunn, Charlotte Dunn, Isabella Skye Finster, Wendy Rena, Logan Schreiner and Colin Rena.  She was predeceased by a brother and several sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at St. Peter’s Church.

Relatives and friends may call at St. Peter’s Church from 10 to 11 AM, prior to the funeral mass.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
