Obituary of Troy M. Riegler

Please share a memory of Troy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Troy M. Riegler, age 46, of Rome, passed October 18, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, after a brief illness.

He was born June 19, 1975, in Rome, a son of William and Jill MacFarland Riegler, and graduated from Rome Free Academy.  Troy worked for 20 years at the Rome Sentinel Company and most recently a job he truly loved at C. A. Kaplan. He was of the Methodist faith.

Troy grew up in the small town of Taberg, he loved to stay busy & was always helping someone either next door or down the road at the Megerell Farm. He was a hard worker and always greeted you with a huge smile on his face and always willing to give a hug or a handshake. He was truly one of the most generous and kindest souls you would meet in your path. He loved the Yankees with every inch of his being and would talk for hours about all sports. He was in the Special Olympics for quite some time and was given the opportunity to go to Ireland one year and brought back two Silver and one Bronze medal for Bocce. Almost every Sunday for the past 40 years you could find Troy at Utica Rome Speedway cheering on his favorite drivers. You could always hear Troy’s name being teased over the loudspeaker by Mike Mallet the announcer. Troy loved going to the pits to talk to all the drivers and crews and wish them good luck with his contagious smile and a high five. A special Thanks to John Clifford who continued to take Troy every Sunday to the races after his dad passed away & to Grandes in Rome and CA Kaplan for your continuous kindness towards Troy each day. He loved all of you.

Troy is survived by his loving mother, Jill; four sisters and brothers in law, April and Skip Roser of Taberg, Holly and Scott Hoag of Rome, Heather and Danny Congden of Camden and Tina Riegler and Rick Mody of Marcy; a brother and sister in law, Chad and Anna Riegler of Sheridan, WY; many nieces and nephews and his feline friend, “Jumper”.  He was predeceased by his father, William “Bill” Riegler.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, at the Lee United Methodist on State Route 69, at 12:30 PM.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, prior to the funeral service.
