Obituary of Kathleen M. Pape
Kathleen M. Pape, age 83, of Stittville, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on November 13, 2020.
Kathleen was born in Newburgh, NY on August 11, 1937 to the late Louis and Kathleen Smith Bonanto. She attended St. Clare’s School of Nursing in Manhattan where she received her associate’s degree as a Registered Nurse. On June 28, 1959 she was united in marriage to Charles A. Pape, Sr. at St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown, NY; a blessed union of nearly 51 years until his passing on May 27, 2010. Kathleen worked at Horton Hospital as an RN, and had several careers in the health care field, ultimately retiring from NYS Division for Youth.
Kathleen was a member of the African Violet Society and volunteered at Hospice and the Wellness Center in Florida. She was an avid reader and loved watching tennis and baseball. She ran several races beginning in her 60’s, including the Disney ½ Marathon, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kathleen is survived by her two daughters, Catherine (David) Bird of Ava, and Mary (Craig) Bartell of Stittville; three sons, Arthur (JoAnn) Pape of Floyd, Thomas (Christine) Pape of Baldwinsville, and Charles Jr. (Darlene) Pape of Rocky Point, NC; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two on the way; a niece, Caroline (Jeff) Brooks of WA; and her dearest cousin, Marylou Bosland (Jason Brennan).
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 12 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street in Rome NY. Burial will be in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday November 21st from 11 AM to 12 PM prior to the service. Those attending must have a face covering and adhere to the social distancing guidelines.
