Obituary of Harold John Hesler
Harold “Bud” J. Hesler, age 80, of the Town of Lee, passed away on March 11, 2020, at Rome Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
Bud was born in Staten Island, NY on October 13, 1939 to the late Harold C. and Vivian Morse Hesler. He graduated from Westmoreland High School and attended MVCC. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in June of 1964. On July 4, 1981, he was united in marriage to the former Bonnie Cole. Bud retired from Special Metals where he worked as a safety engineer.
Bud was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center. He also belonged to the Marine Corps League in both Rome and Camden, the Camden Rod and Gun Club, and both the Rome and Verona Amateurs Radio Club. He was a lifetime member of the Lee Legion Post 1974. Bud also worked the Empire State Games for 20 years and had the privilege of being a guard for a 3-star Admiral.
Bud is survivied by his loving wife, Bonnie; his daughters, Nancy (Tom) Clance, Sandra Last, and Robin Davis; his sons, Paul Hesler, and Jeffrey Davis; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; three sisters, Kathy (Wilson) Montalzo, Bonnie Gunther, and Mary Cutler; three brothers, Samuel, Peter, and Thomas Hesler; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, a great grandson, a brother, Chris Hesler; and two sisters who passed at a young age.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, at 11 AM, at St. Joseph’s Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
