Obituary of Wayne Edward Smith

Wayne E. Smith, 76, of Rome and formerly of Lee Center, passed away August 28, 2013. He was born February 15, 1937, in Rome, a son of the late Edward and Eleanor Turner Smith, and educated in Rome schools. Wayne was united in marriage to the former Phyllis Forbes on February 27, 1965, in Lee Center; she died December of 2001. He formerly was employed at Rome Cable and later at Griffiss Air Force Base. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. In their retirement years, Wayne and Phyllis enjoyed traveling in their RV and taking trips to anywhere. Wayne is survived by two daughters, Sandy Good of Utica, and Tina Smith and companion, Alan Smith of Missouri; three sons and two daughters in law, Edward and Debbie Smith of Maine, Edward and Debbie Baker of Rome, and Dennis Smith of Colorado; special friend, Nancy Carrier; a sister in law, Linda Smith of Rome; a niece and nephews, Robin and Tracy Carpenter, and Danny Smith; and several grand and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister and brother in law, Rita and Richard Carpenter, and a brother, Raymond "Butch" Smith. The funeral service will be held Friday at 7:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Private burial services will be in Lee Valley Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday 4 to 7 PM, prior to the funeral service.
