Obituary of John M. Fitsik, Jr.

John M. Fitsik, Jr, age 74, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019, at Bethany Gardens.

 

He was born May 29, 1945, in Rome, a son of the late John M. and Mary Simons Fitsik, and graduated from Rome Free Academy.  John was a machine operator at Rome Cable Corp for many years and later worked at Turning Stone Casino.  He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, and was a former member of the Henry P. Smith Post #24, American Legion and Fort Stanwix Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans.

 

John is survived by two aunts, Liz Purvis of Norfolk, NY, and Helen Fitsik of Rome; several cousins and good friends.  He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Christine Fitsik.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff of Bethany Gardens for their care, compassion and friendship extended to John.

 

The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.  Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.

 

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 10 to 11 AM, prior to the funeral service.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
