Obituary of Helen P. Smith

Helen P. Smith, age 91, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home, on June 21, 2013.

She was born April 10, 1922, in Rome, a daughter of the late Anthony T. and Pearl H. Herman Pallliwade, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1939. Helen was united in marriage to Raymond A. Smith, on August 18, 1945, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, a loving marriage of nearly 65 years; he died March 9, 2010. She operated Helen's Beauty Nook for 20 years and also retired from the CNYDSO in Rome. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Helen was an active member of the Butternut Branch of the Rome Twigs. She also enjoyed playing golf and was a long-time member of the Newcomer's Golf League at Shamrock Golf Course.

Helen is survived by a son, Raymond M. Smith of Windsor, CT, sisters and brothers in law, Blanche and Rev Dr. Victor F. Halboth, DD of Redford Township, MI, and Shirley and Col. Ret. Edward Kohlmeier of Mission Viejo, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Smith in 1998; a sister, Mary Kalakuniak and two brothers, John and Michael Palliwade, and a sister in law, Rosemary Palliwade.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
