My dear My wife and lifelong soul mate has survived Breast cancer for well over 5 years now. All the doctors and specialist told us that statistically living for another five years was the best we could hope for. Now, five long difficult years has come and gone and this dreadful journey has taken its toll. The ordeal has worn us all down, our mom's, dad's, our children and all of our extended family have watch helplessly, only able to offer words of encouragement and prayer. I think that this may be the hardest thing of all to bear, to stand by and see my dear's health slowly whiter away and not being able do anything about it. Her once beautiful long hair has thinned and her once strong energetic, however overwhelmingly cheerful disposition remains unscathed . The Cancer and life saving surgeries has ravaged, weakened and mutilated her body. Somehow life goes on, but for how long, I wonder? So to a fancy restaurant, we went, on our 25th with our two boys and my sister and drank champagne. It was nice… That night as we turned in for the night, my dear, said to me: "I should have wished for more" and paused for a moment. She then explained how all her hopes and prayers were that she would survive long enough to celebrate this day together. She then said: "I should have wished for more". I had to laugh and she did too.

Words cannot express the wonders of this lady. I was the evening nurse at NYSSD from 2003 until March 2009. It was always such a joy to interact with Denise. She truely loved her NYSSD "children." And she truely loved her family. Thank you Denise for all the inspiration you gave to me and all the others. Ann
