"Pop" there was no one better - my days at Strough with you and Raf were the best- that famous smile - your daily walk around the building - love and support for all - but the best memory, Great Conversations and Friendship! To the Holdgridge Family - A donation will be made to the Michele Adey Memorial Fund so that through the life of a child, the memory of "Popeye", one very special person, will live on - God Bless. Doug, Chris and family, I will always remember "Popeye". From being the girl across the street and his paper girl for many years. I grew up talking to him all the time while I was out and about the neighborhood. Even after i grew up and moved away, I came home and would still see him out walking the neighborhood and saying a hello. He was such a kind hearted sweet man and will truly be missed by all who knew him. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Doug, Chris and Christian, I can't begin to put into words how deeply I will miss my beloved neighbor and friend. So many times over the years he would entertain me with his stories! Other times we would sit quietly and watch a few innings of the Yankees game. I enjoyed taking care of both our yards and driveways, it was therapy for me! Mark told me just before he passed on "go see Popeye as often as you can, it will be good for you"...I listened to him and he was correct, it was good for me in so many ways...those visits are now memories that I will always treasure. God Bless you and to my dearest friend "Mr. Holdridge, rest in heavenly peace". With love, Debbie

Perry, or "Popeye" as I knew him, will always hold a special place in my memory. His life and his family has distinctly and sometimes surprisingly affected my path in life. He was much more than a neighbor. I remember being a pre-teen and hopping the chain link fence between our houses to help take care of their vegetable garden. I remember fondly how Gertrude looked out her bedroom window and taught me how to remove the weeds in her garden. I was young and didn't ever question why she wouldn't come outside, but she would look out the window and smile as 11 year old me dug around her tomato plants pulling weeds. To this day, I carry a strong love of working outdoors and getting dirty for the greater good of nature. Perry's son Doug, or Mr. Holdridge as I knew him, is one of the few teachers I remember taking a special interest in me. Sure, I don't spend my days doing carpentry or soldering circuit boards...but his attention towards me and his sense of humor instilled in me a love of building things. I still dabble in woodwork and my job developing software causes me to interact with various technology hardware, and I still think about the christmas tree LED lights projects I built with Perry's son every time I plug in a new server. I remember watching Perry's granddaughter Christian grow from a toddler into a beautiful, successful young lady. As for Perry "Popeye" himself I'll be forever indebted. I wish I could thank him personally for what he provided to my mother after my father passed away. My father told my mother before he passed away that she should visit Perry often. I hold this statement close to my heart as it's one of the few things I remember my father saying. I heard stories of Perry snow-blowing my mothers driveway, and her snow-blowing his...and stories of long conversations and shared TV programs at Perry's house. There were times when I lived over 1,000 miles away and I'd come home, within an hour my mother would say "I gotta go visit Popeye, I'll be back". Perry and his family and his extended family touched me and my family's life in ways that I don't think anyone realized at the time. He will be truly missed, and I will be forever thankful for this kind man and the wonderful generations of family he raised. Goodbye Popeye.
