Obituary of Barbara S. Ruane

Barbara S. Ruane Barbara S. Ruane, age 84, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home, April 21, 2011, with her loving family at her side. She was born November 26, 1926 in Rome, a daughter of Karl and Theresa Stamm Schraml. She attended St. Aloysius Academy, graduating in 1944 as salutatorian of her class. Barbara was united in marriage to Ronald Ruane on October 24, 1953, at St. Mary's Church. She was employed by the New York Telephone Company as a supervisor and manager until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of St. Paul's Church. Barbara unselfishly gave of herself to family and friends. She was always there in a time of need, willing to help. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. And was looking forward to the arrival of the newest great grandchild; she will be there in spirit. Barbara is survived by her husband, Ronald; three daughters and sons in law, Debra and James Brown of Rome, Lynda and David Jones of Rome, Jan and Douglas Singleton of Rome; a sister and brother in law, Theresa and Anthony Mazzacua of Rome; a brother, Karl Schraml of Henrietta; grandchildren, Peter Jones and wife, Rebecca, Thomas Jones and wife, Denise, and Steven Jones, Amy Graham and Matthew Brown; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyle and Ryan Jones; two sisters in law, Mary Joan Schraml of Haymarket, VA, and Marion Schraml of Essex Junction, VT; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Dan and Jeanne Kelley, Nettie Hartigan and an "Italian Daughter," Joanne Iannotti. She was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia June Ruane; two brothers, Bernard and Paul Schraml; a sister and brother in law, Frances and Joseph Coluccio; and a sister in law, Barbara Schraml. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:45 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and 10:30 AM St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Monday 4 to 7 PM.
