Dear Connie & Christine, Ellen called my mother today and told her the sad news. I am very sorry for your loss. I believe I last saw your father when I was driving up Jay Street while visiting my grandmother Jessie at The Betsy Ross on Laurel Street sometime around Easter 2002. Your father was working in his garden and I stopped to show him a 1803 half-penny. He was interested in gold bullion and futures at the time. He told me about Edward Streun working all day and never tiring. Although he may have referred to John Reigler now that I think about it. I know how much he enjoyed bringing the Christmas trees on the train down to New York. Peter and Mary Ellen Parry of Belle Mead, NJ are the few remaining "Romans" I am now in contact with. I drove up to Old Forge last year and visited Hollywood Hills. The real estate has pretty much been developed just how Jessie warned me. May The Peace be with you! My mother, Dorothy, and sisters, Patty and Barbara, also extend their sympathies. Parry Drake drakeparry@verizon.net

Stanley and my father Clarence Hurlbut (who just passed a few years ago) were long time friends. As such, I can remember going hunting with dad and Stanley on the Ava property. In fact my uncle Willard Backer would sometimes join us. His property came close to Stanley's. We also deer hunted with Stanley in West Branch. I grew up in West Branch and Stokes Hill. Dad would stop and see Stanley in his shop if we were going near Jay Street. In addition, dad would call Stanley when he had heating problems, etc.. So, I was saddened to read the online obituary for Stanley. (I now live in Rochester, NY) He was a very unique individual and considered a friend of our family for a long time including my uncle Hollis Hurlbut. My condolences to the family of Stanley.
