Lyle S. Watson, age 87, of 608 Roosevelt Avenue, passed away on November 27, 2010 at the Rome Memorial Hospital. Lyle was born on September 2nd, 1923, in Rome, New York. He was the son of Clyde and Eva Craig Watson. Lyle was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1941. Lyle served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army Air Corp as part of the 10th AAA Group. During the War, Lyle was stationed in New Guinea and also served in the Philippine Islands. Lyle would tell you that the most significant day in his life was when he was married to Mary Fauci on October 9, 1947 in the Church of St. John the Baptist. Lyle and Mary were inseparable companions for 60 years until Mary passed way in December, 2007. Lyle was a graduate of Utica College of Syracuse University, Class of 1952, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. During his career, Lyle was employed at Rome Cable, Alcoa Division, The Mid-State Library System and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Lyle was a life member of the H.P. Smith Post #24 American Legion, VFW Rome Post #2246, and the Rome Elks Lodge. Throughout their long marriage, Lyle and Mary enjoyed many days on the golf course and traveled extensively throughout Florida in the winter months. They were past members of both the McConnelsville and Crestwood Golf Clubs. Lyle is survived by his youngest brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Joan Watson of Rome, two sisters-in-law, Elvira (Michael) Greci of Syracuse, and Jenni Fauci of Rome. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Lyle was predeceased by his dear sister Margaret (Charles) Butler, brothers Gerald (Betty) Watson, Clarence (Olga) Watson, and James (Wyona) Watson. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law Carmella (Robert) Nugent. Lyle "Gabby" Watson, a good man, a darn good man, what a man. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM, at the Barry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call ath the funeral home, Thursday 4 to 7 PM.
